Flamingo tours in the Ulcinj saltworks
Bird watching in Montenegro is extremely popular. One of the most interesting tours is the Flamingos tour in the Ulcinj saltworks. This activity will relax you and help your heart beat in time with the rhythm of nature. You will enjoy the beautiful landscape and the fresh air, while educating yourself about this amazing bird.
Rowing at Karuč
Kayaking on Skadar Lake is an ideal choice if you love water sports and want to preserve nature. The fishing village of Karuč is ideal for starting a relaxing adventure, with a special energy you can feel the second you dip your oar in the water. If you start from the direction of Podgorica, you can expect about half an hour trip by car (21 km). You will easily find the settlement by following the signs with its name.
When you arrive, leave your vehicle in the parking lot, not far from the spring "Karučko Oko" (your starting point), and then indulge in a short walk, while basking in the bountiful nature all around you. As you start rowing, enjoy the sounds of nature without any interrupting noise, and draw closer to hidden places. Above the fishing village you will see the dominating silhouette of St. Peter of Cetinje’s winter house, and nearby you will find several local beaches and small restaurants, where you can meet locals and enjoy the hospitality of Montenegrins.
Village Godinje
Find the idyllic village of Godinje on the old Virpazar - Bar road across from Ostros. Upon arrival in Virpazar, visit the old bridge, the restored fortress above the city, which offers a fantastic view of Skadar Lake, which is adorned with boats, lake flora, and fauna. Have coffee in one of the restaurants overlooking the lake, then head to Godinje.
The old urban settlement of Godinje is located on the slopes of the Vis hill, and below, right next to the road, a new settlement emerged after the 1979 earthquake. You have so much to see and hear in this place. The real charm of the tour is the meeting with the locals, who will regale you with more folk tales and songs, but also about the customs inherited by the people of this area. Explore the guvnos - places for larger gatherings and village gatherings led by their "chief" and listen to stories about their iconic place in history. You can also search for water sources, head up the stone steps that are part of the narrow streets between rows of crowded houses, and visit Balšić Castle.
The beauties of Lake Manito
In the central part of Montenegro, in the area of Lukavica, you will find Manito or Brnjica Lake. Excursions to Manito Lake are combined with a tour of Captain's Lake, and the entire route is adorned with katuns, meadows covered with wildflowers, pastures and many streams. If you are traveling from Podgorica, come to Nikšić, by highway, where you continue on the local road to Bar Bojović, which is the starting point for hiking. To Captain's Lake you have about 2 hours walk (about 6 km), on a gravel road where your eyes are intoxicated by beauty. Take a break for rest and lunch on the lake (take it in your backpack). From here, continue to Manito Lake, which is about a 40-minute walk away. We recommend that you hire a licensed guide.
Walking tour to the fairytale Zminje Lake
Among the 18 glacial lakes that adorn Durmitor, the beauty of Zminje Lake boasting an incredible green color stands out, hidden in the depths of the forest in an oval spruce belt, at the very source of the Mlinski Potok spring. Walking to the lake is ideal if you are not in shape or if you take children with you, and the place is perfect for meditation. It will take you about an hour and fifteen minutes from Ivan Dola. The road is well marked, first passing through a coniferous forest, and later a temperate forest (you can also go by car). Enjoy a walk along the path around the lake, rest on benches, and drink water from one of the two springs of drinkable water.
The village of Mala Crna Gora on the "roof" of Durmitor
Visit this island on the mainland, where life takes place the same way it did 100 years ago, and listen to the story of the Highlanders and their lives. This is a place where frosts and heavy snow cover the ground from October to May, with snowfall reaching up to 10 m. Due to snow blockages, locals will be cut off from the world for 6-7 months, so for this period they must obtain enough food in advance.
You can find Mala Crna Gora on the plateau between the canyon of Tara and Sušica, between 1,300 and 1,500 meters above sea level, about a twenty-minute drive from Zabljak. The village is also located on the map of the panoramic road "Durmitorski Prsten," which leads you on this section below Veliki Štuoc, along the very edge of the Tara canyon, and further down a winding road through the forests. At a sharp bend, you finally reach this village.
