Gazeta, a reputable Polish weekly, has recommended Montenegro as a breathtaking destination, which, in addition to the well-known coastline, also boasts national parks and mountains, which occupy most of the country.
Małgorzata Kubalska, the author of the article, devoted particular attention to the national parks of Lovćen, Lake Skadar, Prokletije, Biogradska gora and Durmitor.
“Only sixty kilometres away from Podgorica lies Lovćen National Park, where the Mediterranean and continental climates meet, resulting in a rich flora. This place is a must-visit when travelling to Kotor. Perched on one of the highest peaks within the park (Jezerski vrh) is the mausoleum dedicated to prince-bishop Peter II Petrović Njegoš. This place offers a stunning view of the Bay of Kotor,” the article says.
Kubalska also recommends visiting Lake Skadar National Park. “This impressive lake, the largest in the Balkans, was declared a national park back in 1983. The most popular tourist attraction of this area are boat cruises on the lake, during which you can see interesting animal and plant species, including pelicans, cormorants, turtles and aquatic plants“, Kubalska writes.
Further down the article, the author recommends a visit to the Prokletije, which she describes as one of the oldest mountain ranges in Europe that has been attracting an increasing number of visitors recently.
“The park boasts the highest peak in the country – Zla Kalata (2534 metres) and the charming Grabaja valley, where most hiking trails start,” she adds.
