During the winter months, visitors to national parks will have access to Visitor Centers where themes related to the natural values and cultural heritage of Montenegro's national parks will be interpreted. When weather conditions permit, promotional snowshoe walks will be organized.
Closure of Trails for Use: All maintained hiking trails in the coastal and central parts of Montenegro above 1,500 meters above sea level will be closed for use from December 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024.
All other maintained hiking trails in the mountainous part of Montenegro above 1,500 meters above sea level will be closed for use from December 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024 (in principle).
Reasons for Closure: Winter conditions, presence of snow cover, slippery and icy sections of trails, lack of winter markings, irregular traffic functioning, closed national parks, and restricted crossing of state borders are factors that make mountain trails unsafe for use.
User Responsibility: Mountain trails are generally open from April to June 2024, with the consent of the relevant authorities. During the temporary prohibition period, the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro, mountaineering clubs, and the expert commission do not bear responsibility for the movement of users on mountain trails. Therefore, we caution users to exercise their own responsibility when using mountain trails during the temporary prohibition period.
