Awaken your inner adventurer and go rafting on the Tara River
Tara, Montenegro's longest mountain river, flows between the mountains Durmitor and Sinjajevina and is part of the National Park Durmitor, which is known for its unbelievable natural beauty, as you will see while driving to the rafting destination. The Tara River Canyon is under UNESCO protection due to its natural formations and unique ecosystem.
Rafting during the summer
Are you planning to visit during the summer? Tara will definitely keep you cool because the water temperature never rises above 15°C.
Where to start? Multi-day rafting with breaks begins underneath the famous bridge on Đurđevića Tara (which is in itself a special attraction and you must stop when you visit the north of Montenegro.) If you want to see the Tara River in one day, the second starting point is Brštanovica. This section of the river is the most exciting because it offers the charms of river cascades and rapids, as well as glades, old churches and monasteries, mills, and much more.
These excursions are suitable for everyone, both beginners and experienced ones!
With the help of homemade food, you can regain your strength
This type of adventure requires a lot of energy, so you'll get a chance to regain your strength with pršut, kaymak (clotted cream), homemade cheeses, and hot pies in one of the selected rafting camps.
When is the best time to visit for rafting?
Rafting season runs from April to October, and the most exciting time to go rafting is during the spring snowmelt, when the rapids are the wildest and fastest. If you want to get your adrenaline pumping, go rafting in April or May. The degree of water density varies from one-third to one-fifth, depending on the time of year and the water level. The tour can last up to a couple of hours. Exciting, isn't it!?
Ensure your safety!
On your rafting adventure, make sure to use helmets and belts, as well as appropriate suits. The Durmitor National Park and travel agencies organize rafting trips. It is critical to select a reliable organizer, and the National Park Service's recommendations can be found on their website. Many agencies offer horseback riding, canyoning, and other activities in addition to rafting. Have fun to the fullest!
Tara's icy descent!
Maybe you'll be among those who will experience Montenegro's winter rafting season when the water stays at a frosty 5-6 degrees? Despite the icy winter, a January rafting adventure on Tara has an unusual appeal!
